For any woman, a handbag is not just a fashion statement anymore. It is so much more than that. From college students to working women to hardworking housemakers, a handbag is the most crucial part. Women depend on it to keep all their essentials in one place. Hence women look for trusted brands that understand their needs to have a stylish handbag that is durable and spacious as well.

Baggit, being one of the leading handbag brands in India, has gained a lot of popularity amongst women of all ages as it has been able to understand and implement the needs of its loyal customers.

But did you know how did this leading brand start in the first place?

Nina Lekhi was passionate about painting which encouraged her to take up a diploma in the foundation of art course at Sophia Polytechnic College, Mumbai. Things did not go her way. Nina has always been a sharp student and was always at the top of her class. However, to her surprise, she was unable to pass the diploma course which left her dismayed and she had to take up two part-time courses.

This setback in her life could not discourage her from her goal. Nina was determined to fulfill her dreams.

Nina has always been a creative child. She realized that there were not many handbags in the market that were both stylish and durable. That is when she got the idea to do use this opportunity. With the support of her mother and an investment of Rs 7000, Nina decided to make handbags and sell them.

Initially, Nina started selling her bags at exhibitions and exclusively to a few retail stores. Gradually, Nina not only increased the range of her designs but also switched to eco-friendly, vegan material for her bags making the brand cruelty-free. This made her bags more popular.

It so happened that Shoppers Stop had just entered the Indian market and Nina was able to collaborate with the brand and Baggit was in the big leagues.

25 years down the line, Baggit is now selling at more than 1,000 stores across the country and unlike other brands, it is completely manufactured in India. The business which Nina once started with only Rs 7,000 has become a brand worth over Rs 100 crore

After years of struggle and hard work, Nina now looks back at her failure in college and difficulties in her business as the best thing that could ever happen to her. She has learned from all the setbacks and has immerged successful every time.
