Samsung Secure Folder: How to enable, take backup and delete data

Samsung smartphones have a separate place to keep users’ data. This is a space which is entirely different from the phone’s primary storage. It offers users a space where users can keep photos, videos, documents that they don’t want to be commonly seen. It’s an encrypted folder that also offers biometric authentication option. Here’s all you need to know about this folder.

What is Secure Folder
Secure Folder is a second space within the smartphone’s storage with an additional encrypted layer. This is the place where users can keep photos, videos, files, apps and other data private. It is separate from the phone’s primary storage.

Users can add an additional layer of biometric lock, pattern, password or PIN to prevent unauthorised access.

How to enable and setup Secure Folder on Samsung smartphones

Open ‘Settings’ on your Samsung smartphone and head to ‘Biometric and security’

Scroll down and tap on ‘Secure Folder’ option and follow the instructions to setup the Secure Folder.

Do note that at the time of setup, you’ll need to enter Samsung account details and Google account. Along with this, you will also need to setup password protection for it.

Once done, it will automatically open the Secure Folder. Also a new Secure Folder icon will also appear in the launcher.

How to add apps to Secure Folder
To add apps, tap on the ‘+’ icon at the top right corner. Here you can either choose from the pre-installed ones or download using Google Play Store.

How to add files from primary section to Secure Folder
To transfer a file, photo, video or any other document, simply open the file and tap on three dots. Then tap on ‘Move to Secure Folder’ option.

How to backup data stored in Secure Folder
In the latest update of Secure Folder, Samsung has removed the backup option. That means, users can no longer backup data from Secure Folder.

However, you can first move all your files and documents from Secure Folder to the primary section and then take a backup of the entire smartphone. Alternatively, you can upload them to cloud storage.

Samsung also gives users the option to move media files out of Secure Folder at the time Uninstalling.

How to uninstall Secure Folder

Open Secure Folder and tap on three dots at the top right corner

Head to Settings -> More Settings

Here choose the option Uninstal

If you want to move media files out of Secure Folder, make sure to check the option — Move media files out of Secure Folder before tapping on the ‘Uninstal’ button.
